Sanford Downtown Legacy
Who We Are
We are a non profit organization, 1 of 2000 in the country that work on the revitalization of our downtown. We do this with one paid staff and a large number of volunteers. Our work consist of 4 committees. Design works with the City on keeping a vision of what the downtown buildings should look like. They look for "beautification" project. Organization Committee does the fundraizing and manages the volunteers. Promotions Committee works on promoting the downtown with festivals and special events. Economic Restructuring Committee works on finding new businesses for the downtown while working with the exsisting businesses on their needs. Historic Preservation is also a important part of our mission.
What We Do
Our Mission ?To coordinate and lead public and private actions to redevelop the Mousam Waterfront, Sanford Downtown and the historic mills area into a thriving, energetic, commercial, social, cultural, residential and entertainment destination through concentrated efforts of organization, design, promotion, economic restructuring and historic preservation.? Adopted April 10, 2007 Sanford Downtown Legacy was formed in 2007 and was designated a Main Street community in 2009. They have worked hard on a number of projects in the downtown area along with managing the major events in the city, such as Summah, Harvest and Holly Daze.
