Who We Are

York Land Trust is a nonprofit organization that protects and cares for significant natural lands and waterways in the greater York Maine area for the benefit of the community and the environment. We envision a community that values the need for a healthy, natural environment to ensure the social, economic and overall well-being of its citizens. A broad diversity of permanently protected landscapes, waterways, wildlife and natural resources that define our community’s unique character will complement the built environment. The public will be engaged in relationships with the land that are mutually beneficial.

What We Do

The York Land Trust stewards more than 3,600 acres of treasured, community lands, including Public Access Preserves, Limited Access Preserves, and Conservation Easements on privately owned lands. York Land Trust has also protected an additional 1,500 acres in York held by federal, state, and local agencies. Since 2002, YLT has worked collaboratively with local, state and federal partners through the Mt. Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative (MtA2C) to protect more than 15,200 acres of conserved land and open space within a 48,000-acre focus area that includes more than 50 miles of hiking trails across 30 public preserves. Thanks to the generous, annual support of our more than 650 members, we are able to: - Conserve land through conservation easements, land donations and purchases; - Collaborate with landowners, state agencies, town governments and conservation partners to protect, manage and restore critical ecosystems, and - Inspire greater appreciation for nature through educational programs and opportunities to explore our preserves.
