Who We Are

Furniture Friends is dedicated to collecting and distributing donated furniture to people in need throughout Greater Portland. We work collaboratively with shelters, schools, churches, hospitals and other social service providers to identify newly housed and low-income individuals and families who need help obtaining basic household furnishings. Many of our clients have struggled with homelessness or a physical or mental disability. Some are veterans. Others are victims of domestic violence. Many others are new Mainers -- immigrants and refugees -- who have recently arrived in Portland. Regardless of their circumstances, they all lack the resources to make their housing livable. Often, they are without beds, tables, chairs, and have no place to store the few possessions they own.

What We Do

Thanks to the generosity of businesses and private citizens in our wider community, Furniture Friends receives regular donations of unneeded, unwanted, but perfectly usable furniture that is temporarily stored at our warehouse. We collect essential household furnishings including beds, bureaus, couches, kitchen tables and chairs. After assessing client needs, staff work with amazing volunteer teams to deliver the necessary items.
