Peaks Island Children's Workshop

Who We Are

The Peaks Island Children's Workshop promotes and nurtures the happy and healthy growth of our children in a creative learning environment, within our families, and our community. The child care center was established in 1972 and was originally housed out of the basement of St. Christopher's Parish Hall. In 1991, we recognized the need for a more adaptable and environmentally friendly facility. With the help of the community, $400,000 was raised to start building a new center. In 1995, the Peaks Island Children's Workshop moved into their new space.

What We Do

The center is accredited by the National Association for Family Child Care which provides daily infant, toddler and pre-school care for community families, from 8am-5pm. We are currently a Level 4 on the Quality for ME Quality Rating and Improvement System which is a state wide organization dedicated to training and promoting quality child care. The Workshop provides resources and referrals to mainland resources and works cooperatively with other island services. The center's basic goal is support for the positive growth and development of young children and their families.
