Who We Are
RTP is a private, non-profit 501c(3) established in 1976. The mission of RTP is to meet the diverse transportation and mobility needs of people and communities. We provide curb-to-curb service for Cumberland County's elderly, economically disadvantaged, individuals with disabilities and social service agency clients along with the general public, enabling them to meet a variety of medical, nutritional, employment and social needs. In 1984, RTP was designated by MaineDOT as a Regional Transportation Corporation, (RTC), which means we provide public transportation services to designated rural areas of Cumberland County, Maine. We operate with a staff of 30+ agency drivers, 20+ volunteer drivers, 2 mechanics, and an administrative / dispatch office staff of 9 people. We work hard to make sure that riders get to where they need to go every day. Our staff is committed to providing excellent service to the populations we serve.
What We Do
We provide brokered MaineCare rides to non-emergency medical facilities such as dialysis, hospitals, doctors, rehabilitation services and cancer treatment. If it's broker authorized, RTP can provide the trip. But we do so much more than just brokered trips. We take riders grocery shopping from many low-income/elderly housing sites throughout greater Portland and surrounding communities. We work with DHHS and CDS to transport children to therapeutic daycare, family visits, and other appointments arranged by those agencies. We are also the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) transportation for qualified residents of Portland, South Portland, Westbrook and Falmouth. In late 2013, we launched the Lakes Region Bus (Now called the Lakes Region Explorer) to provide fixed route bus service between Bridgton and Portland with four round trips daily! We continually strive to improve and expand our service. If it's serving the populations that qualify, we do it! And there's more.... Our Dispatch office is open from 5:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday to answer calls and schedule trips. We do require that all riders schedule there trips two business days in advance (unless qualified for ADA services). Our dispatchers are ready and happy to help you schedule your ride and answer questions about our service.
