Who We Are

4-H is a national organization for youth ages 5-18 to learn life skills through hands-on project-based work. The University of Maine Cooperative Extension conducts the most successful out-of-school educational program in Maine. As the youth development arm of UMaine Extension, 4-H has always emphasized the importance of building the life skills needed to be successful adults. 4-H programs are free or low cost for all participants.

4-H in Cumberland County is one of the largest 4-H programs in Maine with 200+ youth, 70+ volunteers, and 15+ clubs. We have two full-time staff members to manage our year-round clubs, afterschool clubs, special interest activities, events, and outreach programs. Due to our low staff numbers we rely heavily on the help and expertise of our volunteers to make our programs run smoothly.

What We Do

The 4-H Program in Cumberland County is very vibrant and diverse in the programs offered. Community 4-H Clubs are our signature program. There are currently 15+ community and afterschool clubs led primarily by volunteer club leaders, assistant leaders, and project leaders. We also offer numerous programs at local libraries, summer food sites, and host five annual county-wide events.
