Who We Are
The Y strengthens the foundation of community through Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen, Healthy Living: Improving the nation's health and well-being, and Social Responsibility: Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.
What We Do
The YMCA of Southern Maine has been a strong and positive force in our community for more than 150 years. Today there are 4 branches, Casco Bay, Greater Portland, Northern York County, and Pineland, as well as 12 before and after school sites throughout Cumberland and Northern York Counties. The YMCA of Southern Maine is for everyone. The Y relies on a strong volunteer base to provide value based programming and other services for the YMCA. Approximately 800 people volunteer for the YMCA of Southern Maine each year for board roles, program services, and fundraising. We are thankful for the over 11,700 hours generously given from these volunteers. The Y offers our 11,000 members an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a community that is based on the development of healthy relationships. Last year, 20,035 people, including 6,228 children, were involved in active and healthy living activities at the Y. The Y is providing solutions to social problems in our communities, often in collaboration with other social service providers. We engage with a broad array of community stakeholders to achieve community well-being. Last year alone we partnered with 94 non-profits to better serve our community.
