Who We Are

MISSION Spurwink provides behavioral health and education services for children, adults and families.

VISION OF SUCCESS Children, adults and families affected by behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities living healthy, engaged lives in their communities. We began with one house in Portland, Maine. Today, Spurwink has 37 active homes serving children, and another 18 homes serving its adult program. Starting with a handful of employees, Spurwink today draws much of its strength from its nearly 1,200 employees. Our values remain the same. They are the cornerstone of what we do and how we deliver services: Developing positive self regard in those we serve by honoring and respecting who they are, and then building upon the strengths of the individual and the family.

What We Do

Spurwink provides behavioral health and education services for 8,600 children, adults, and families affected by mental health challenges and developmental disabilities, including autism. Treatment and learning take place in a variety of settings, including residential homes and day treatment schools in Portland, Lewiston, Chelsea, and Cornville; a therapeutic preschool in Saco; the Spurwink Adult Behavioral Health program in South Portland for adults with severe mental illness, and the Center for Safe & Healthy Families; treatment foster homes in eleven counties; and out-patient and community services hubs in Portland, Biddeford, Lewiston, and Randolph.
