Description

White Cane Walk for Independence - October 12, 2019 @ 9am

The White Cane Walk for Independence is an event organized to promote a better understanding of Maine’s White Cane Law and to increase public awareness of safe independent travel for people who use white canes or guide dogs. This annual event helps raise awareness for The Iris Network as well as bring in needed funds for our programs and services for Mainers who are visually impaired or blind. An important aspect of the Walk is to promote a better understanding of the White Cane Law, which represents safety, freedom, and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. The White Cane Law, enacted on September 18, 1999, requires motorist to yield the right-of-way to persons using a white cane or guide dog.
