United Way of Southern Maine (UWSM) is partnering with Maine chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI ME) to provide a national evidence-based Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to community members. A trainer from NAMI ME will offer participants a six-hour virtual training a volunteers will learn risk factors and warning signs, identify when a person may need individual support, steps to help someone in crisis, and available support options.

Participants will receive official MHFA certification upon completion of the training. This training will help volunteers deepen their engagement with the Thrive2027, our community’s three ten-year goal to measurably improve the education, financial stability, and health of everyone in Greater Portland. This training will specifically spotlight Goal 3, which aims to reduce preventable, premature deaths by 10%.

This training requires pre-work and a multi-step registration.  Deadline for sign-up is May 5.
