Join our dedicated team at the Auburn Distribution Center, where volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring our partner agencies receive high-quality, safe food.

Volunteer Roles:

Food Inspector:

Inspect and Sort: Examine donated and salvage food items to ensure they are safe for consumption.Recover and Repair: Improve packaging and fix labels to save items that might otherwise be discarded.

Sorter:

Organize and Categorize: Move approved salvage products off the conveyor belt and place them into the correct categories.

Volunteer: Cooking Assistants, Shoppers, and Instructors for Cooking Matters Classes

Do You Love to Cook? Share Your Passion and Skills with the Community!

Are you passionate about cooking and eager to make a positive impact? Here’s your chance to share your culinary talents with community members who need it the most. As a culinary instructor or class assistant, you will inspire and educate participants, helping them create healthy, budget-friendly meals at home through our community cooking classes - Cooking Matters.  We also need folks willing to help shop for ingredients that will be used in the class. Many options to fit your schedule.

No need to organize a curriculum or be a professional chef, just be willing to show up, lend a hand, and enjoy food with neighbors.

Responsibilities:

Teach low-income participants essential food and kitchen safety practices.Demonstrate food preparation techniques and healthy, cost-effective cooking.Guide participants in making smart, low-cost ingredient substitutions.Serve as an educator and role model, empowering participants to cook confidently and healthily.

Skills/Experience Required:

Professional culinary training or food industry experience is a plus but not mandatory.Self-taught cooking enthusiasts with strong culinary knowledge are welcome.Proficiency in knife skills, basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and ingredient substitutions is essential.
