What is the Point-In-Time Count (PIT Count)?
The Point-In-Time Count is an annual survey required by the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development to identify individuals in our communities who are experiencing
homelessness. The Homeless Services Hub Coordinators organize these counts for their
respective hubs under the oversight of the Maine Continuum of Care (MCoC).
We are seeking volunteers for January 26 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Volunteers will work
in teams to conduct surveys at designated warming centers and stationary locations in
Portland. Volunteers will administer brief, anonymous surveys and distribute warm items
and food to individuals experiencing homelessness. Training will be provided, including
instruction on using the “Counting Us” mobile application.
Volunteers must register through the MaineHomelessPlanning.org website
