Adult volunteers play an important role in the 4-H program. They mentor 4-H youth, coordinate local community clubs, teach in 4-H school groups and help to plan and run events. Types of Volunteers Needed:

4-H Club Leader: Work in partnership with youth ages 5-18 to develop citizenship, leadership, and life skills. Whether you want to oversee a general club or a focus on a specific topic, you'll help young people learn the importance of record keeping, public speaking, and service learning, while learning new skills and having fun.

4-H Project Leader: Share your skills, talents or special interests such as photography, horses, dogs, rabbits, sewing, computers or woodworking. In this role, you may be called upon to offer a number of sessions at an afterschool program, or assist a club leader by sharing your expertise and working with their club members.

4-H Special Interest Club Leader: Special Interest (SPIN) clubs are generally 6 sessions held on a topic of the volunteer’s choosing. Some SPIN clubs we have offered in the past include Introduction to Horses, Cake Decorating, Bees and Beyond, and more.

Episodic 4-H Volunteer: We have a variety of volunteer opportunities that don't require a long-term commitment. Judging at the fair, helping with a specific fundraiser, assisting with a garden project, scoring 4-H project records, or organizing an annual county event to name a few.

We are looking for a volunteer yoga instructor for 1xmonthly yoga classes for our residents. We are a non-profit halfway house that focuses on community reintegration and are looking for provide healthy in-house activities to improve morale with our residents.

Every Wednesday I volunteer at the Adult Day Program for older Mainers with varying degrees of dementia. It provides a home away from home environment chock full of wellness, hope… and friendship. What I got every Wednesday was the gift of witnessing life lived with courage and perseverance...I should be thanking SMAA for enhancing my life so greatly. The gifts of hearing how people have lived their lives and the endless magical moments I now experience on Wednesdays. Little did I know when I arrived here the gifts that would grow one right after the other. That my days inside the Adult Day Program would have me ballroom dancing to “MOON RIVER” at 11AM (!) or belting out a sing-a-long of Sweet Caroline...at the top of my lungs with the bravest people I’ve ever met?

...PLUS, PLUS…. the added inspiration the staff and volunteers would instill in me. The pure generosity the staff gives, strengthened by their teamwork to maintain each member’s dignity day after day, year after year...Every member feels seen.

Are you a skilled artist with interest in sharing your knowledge with others? Our residents would love an opportunity to learn from you! Seeking an enthusiastic, patient, creative partner to lead art sessions on campus. Areas of interest are vast, so whatever your passion (i.e., paint, florals, textiles, 2-demensional art, 3-demensional art, etc.), we'd love to hear from you. Frequency of sessions and specific projects taught/completed will be customized based on the right volunteer's availability and vision. 

Join our team as we bring essential furniture directly to clients’ homes. Staff and volunteers work together to load items into our vehicles, transport them, and carefully move the furniture inside for each client. This role makes an immediate, meaningful impact—turning an empty space into a comfortable home.

Volunteers team up with Furniture Friends staff to travel to donor locations—homes, motels, schools, and more—to collect approved furniture donations. Together, the team loads items into our vehicles and transports them back to the warehouse for processing. This role is active, collaborative, and essential to keeping our furniture flow strong.

On Saturdays, volunteers can jump in wherever help is needed—either supporting donation drop-offs at our warehouse or joining staff on donation pick-ups. You might welcome donors and help unload furniture, or ride along to homes, motels, and schools to collect approved items and load them into our vehicles.

It’s a great role if you like staying active, working as a team, and keeping the flow of furniture moving to neighbors who need it.

Clients visit our warehouse to “shop” for the furniture they need from our showroom. Shopper Guides welcome clients, walk them through the selection process, and offer support as they choose items. Afterward, volunteers enter the selected furniture into our inventory system. Each appointment lasts about 30 minutes. *Training required.

Volunteers help keep our mission moving—literally! As a truck driver, you’ll operate our 16-foot box truck to pick up donated furniture or deliver items directly to clients across our service area. You’ll always be paired with staff or another volunteer, and a quick road test with FF staff is required before you get started.

Our Warehouse Support volunteers are our all-around helpers. Tasks may include cleaning and organizing, helping move furniture, driving or transporting volunteers, and pitching in with simple administrative work. This role is perfect for someone who likes variety and wants to keep the warehouse running smoothly.

Join us as a volunteer with the Money Minders Program at the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to assist older adults in York & Cumberland counties in managing their finances to help them live independently. Volunteers work closely with clients to provide support in a way that respects their dignity and privacy.

While we are accepting rolling applications for any volunteers that wish to be involved in this program.

What you’ll do:
As a volunteer, you will partner with a client to assist with various monthly financial tasks, including:
-Reading and sorting mail
-Preparing a basic monthly budget
-Preparing—but NOT signing—checks to pay monthly bills
-Recording transactions in the check register
-Reconciling the check register with bank statements
-Communicating with vendors about billing issues
-Offering reliable companionship and a listening ear
Please note: Volunteers do not control client funds, ensuring a safe and protected environment for both you and the client.

Qualities, experience, & skills you'll need:
-A compassionate and respectful attitude towards client privacy and dignity
-Ability to assist clients with financial tasks, though prior experience with budgeting is helpful but not required
-Strong communication skills, particularly in interacting with vendors
-A commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and following program safeguards

Where & when you’ll volunteer:
Volunteers will with meet clients at their homes, providing assistance in a comfortable and familiar setting.
Meetings are typically once or twice a month, at a time that works for both you and your client. Volunteers generally spend 1-2 hours per visit, and we ask for an initial commitment of 1 year to ensure continuity for clients.

Whether you’ve coached before or just love the game, your time and energy can make a real impact.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is looking for volunteers to join our Walking School Bus at the South Portland Club! Volunteers will walk to Small Elementary School in the afternoon to meet a group of members and accompany them safely back to the Club. This is a fun and active way to support kids in your community—helping them get from school to the Club while promoting safety, connection, and healthy habits along the way.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is seeking volunteers to assist with food pick-up and delivery for our Portland Clubhouse. Volunteers will help pick up prepared meals from Preble Street and deliver them to the Club, ensuring our members have access to healthy, nutritious food each day. This behind-the-scenes role plays an important part in supporting our meal program and helping kids thrive. A valid driver’s license with excellent driving record is required.  Vehicle will be provided. 

Our Clubhouses are now open for school year operations, with youth members in the Clubhouses from 2:30-6:00 Monday-Friday. Volunteers play a large role in the daily activities and programs our members by giving of their time, passion and knowledge. Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine (BGCSM) are looking for individuals to volunteer in after school homework help, arts, STEM, physical activities and more.

BGCSM is looking for individuals to assist in a wide range of programs with the aid of Club staff and group leaders.  We ask that all volunteers be able to commit to at least 6 weeks, for at least 1-2 hours per week.  This commitment allows Club staff to plan activities around the volunteers at the Clubhouses on a particular day.

When Will I Volunteer?

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) is looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to join our Respite Care Companion pilot program. You’ll be matched one-on-one with an older adult who needs support living independently—and provide their family caregiver with a much-needed break.

This is more than volunteering—it’s a chance to build a meaningful relationship, share stories and smiles, and help someone feel seen, supported, and less alone.

During weekly visits, you’ll provide companionship and light, non-medical assistance to an older adult in their home. Activities may include:

Engaging in friendly conversation

Reading together

Sharing hobbies or going for a walk

Light household tasks (sorting mail, making a snack, basic tech help)

Your presence helps a caregiver recharge while knowing their loved one is in good hands.

We’re looking for volunteers who are:

About SMAA:
At the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, we empower older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers to live to their fullest potential. Join our mission to support community connection and wellness across Southern Maine!

Our Community Cafes are available throughout Cumberland and York counties and provide participants aged 60 and over with an opportunity to socialize with other attendees while enjoying a delicious and nutritious lunch. Some Community Cafés also offer entertainment (such as bingo, games, and musical acts) or educational opportunities (such as speakers and resource tables).

What skills do I need to be a Phone Pal volunteer?

Volunteers communicate concerns to the Phone Pal Coordinator as needed and follow protocol if recipient does not answer phone at the scheduled time.

Where & when will I make my calls?
Phone Pals call their match 1-3 times/week for about 10-30 minutes each time - the days and times of the calls are flexible!  Whatever works best for you and your Phone Pal match!  Make calls from your home, office - or anywhere!  To build relationships, we ask for a commitment of at least 6 months.

Do you have a passion for technology and helping others? Are you looking for a way to apply your experience working with Zoom and other virtual platforms?  You might be a great fit for the Safety Observer Volunteer role with Southern Maine Agency on Aging's Agewell programs!

Agewell offers two health and wellness classes for seniors: Tai Chi for Health & Balance and A Matter of Balance.  Both are evidence-based to reduce the risk of falls among older adult participants.  When we lead these classes virtually, we are able to reach many of our older neighbors who face barriers to in-person classes such as transportation availability and cost, caregiving duties, and even Maine's winter weather!  However, virtual classes bring a host of challenges as participants learn the platform (Zoom) and we ensure safe practice remotely. 

The Agewell Safety Observer Volunteer will track attendance, monitor class both visually and auditorily, and admit virtual participants from the waiting room to the class. The Safety Observer supports participants with technical questions to the best of their ability, and acts as the conduit between the participants and the class instructor—asking (but not providing) for modifications or clarifications as needed and providing feedback to the instructor about technical issues.

As a Direct Care Hospice Volunteer, you will provide essential support to patients and their families in various settings, including private homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Direct Care Hospice Volunteers provide non-medical aid and support in the following ways:
-Providing companionship and emotional support for patients, caregivers, and families
-Providing respite care to allow caregivers time to themselves
-Assisting with errands
-Helping with light household chores or light meal prep
-Providing bedside companionship for patients alone in their final hours
-Assisting with life review, letter writing, or completion of projects
-Offering grief support following the death of a loved one

Training & Requirements:

WindowDressers is a nonprofit organization that brings community volunteers of all economic and social situations together to improve the warmth and comfort of interior spaces, lower heating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution by producing low-cost (no-cost for low-income households) insulating window inserts that function as custom, interior-mounted storm windows.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging has partnered with WindowDressers to fill a number of volunteer needs:

1. Measuring Volunteer: Measuring Volunteers work in teams of two visiting clients at home to conduct a measurement appointment. Volunteers will take measurements for installing window inserts and quote the client on the price of the install. At least one volunteer will be required to have access to a vehicle as well as a valid driver's license. Volunteers will be paired based on geographic proximity to clients and may choose to carpool to the client's home or drive separately. Access to a laptop and experience working with basic computer programs is a plus. 

2. Local Coordinator: Community Builds are like old-fashioned barn-raisings for inserts! Volunteers gather together for several days to build all of the inserts that have been ordered in their neighborhood.  Experienced volunteers teach new volunteers, food is provided, and the end results are high-quality inserts at a very affordable price and a stronger, more connected community. Community Builds typically take place between September and January each year. Local Coordinators are key volunteers who help anchor a Community Build in their neighborhood—organizing the event from start to finish.  The Local Coordinator helps recruit and organize a team of 4-10 volunteers to help run the event.  They also work to secure a donated location for the Community Build, schedule the event, and oversee the event coordination. With a strong volunteer team, this is mostly a management role.

3. Food Coordinator: Providing food is an important community-building aspect of each Community Build. A Food Coordinator is a key team member for each Community Build; they help secure food donations, and are responsible for the set-up and clean-up of the food for each day of the Community Build.

Where will I work?
WindowDressers currently serves multiple communities in Cumberland and York Counties, including Portland, Peaks Island, Falmouth, Brunswick, Biddeford and Wells. We could use help with food coordination in any of these communities!

When will I work?
On your own schedule, in coordination with other local volunteers.  Community Builds typically take place between September and January each year.

What length of commitment is expected?

Paw Prints Pet Therapy Program:
Volunteers provide patients, families and HSM staff the opportunity to visit and interact with Therapy Dogs and experience the benefits of the human-animal bond and improve quality of life through human-animal interaction. Paw Prints volunteers work directly with the Gosnell House patient’s, families, and facility residents offering comfort and support through pet visitation.

Heart Strings Music Program:
Musicians who are trained hospice volunteers will play live music at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Musicians are not there to be performers but rather to provide a soothing presence. The musician stays out of the way and in the background. Conversations, meals, visits or rests are able to continue. Musicians will play in the family room/lobby area and will play bed side upon request.

Reiki Volunteering
To provide Reiki sessions voluntarily to hospice patients and/or caregivers who request the service. Reiki volunteer will provide two to four hours or more a month of Reiki to hospice patients requesting the service.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging has partnered with York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) to recruit Volunteer Drivers! Did you know that transportation is among one of the most requested services by older adults in Southern Maine?  Volunteer Drivers provide critical door-to-door transportation services for individuals who are unable to access other means of transportation, including children and elderly residents of York County.

What will I do as a Volunteer Driver?
-Drive your own vehicle to provide transportation for individuals across York County and beyond.
-Provide door-to-door services to clients traveling to medical appointments and other essential services.
-Transport residents from any of the 29 towns in York County to services in and out of the County, as far south as Boston and as far north as Bangor, although the majority of the transportation requests are for appointments within York County and Southern Cumberland County (Scarborough/Portland).

Who Were Looking For:
-Dependable and caring individuals with a valid Maine driver’s license and a good driving record.
-Volunteers who are interested in becoming an active part of their community and helping others.
-A minimum commitment of 4-6 months is preferred

When Will I Volunteer?
-Volunteer hours are flexible based on your availability.
-Transportation requests are typically from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 5-7 days a week.

WindowDressers is a nonprofit organization that brings community volunteers of all economic and social situations together to improve the warmth and comfort of interior spaces, lower heating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution by producing low-cost (no-cost for low-income households) insulating window inserts that function as custom, interior-mounted storm windows.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging has partnered with WindowDressers to fill a number of volunteer needs:

1. Measuring Volunteer: Measuring Volunteers work in teams of two visiting clients at home to conduct a measurement appointment. Volunteers will take measurements for installing window inserts and quote the client on the price of the install. At least one volunteer will be required to have access to a vehicle as well as a valid driver's license. Volunteers will be paired based on geographic proximity to clients and may choose to carpool to the client's home or drive separately. Access to a laptop and experience working with basic computer programs is a plus. 

2. Local Coordinator: Community Builds are like old-fashioned barn-raisings for inserts! Volunteers gather together for several days to build all of the inserts that have been ordered in their neighborhood.  Experienced volunteers teach new volunteers, food is provided, and the end results are high-quality inserts at a very affordable price and a stronger, more connected community. Community Builds typically take place between September and January each year. Local Coordinators are key volunteers who help anchor a Community Build in their neighborhood—organizing the event from start to finish.  The Local Coordinator helps recruit and organize a team of 4-10 volunteers to help run the event.  They also work to secure a donated location for the Community Build, schedule the event, and oversee the event coordination. With a strong volunteer team, this is mostly a management role. We are specifically looking for Coordinators in York and Biddeford/Saco!

3. Food Coordinator: Providing food is an important community-building aspect of each Community Build. A Food Coordinator is a key team member for each Community Build; they help secure food donations, and are responsible for the set-up and clean-up of the food for each day of the Community Build.

Where will I work?
WindowDressers currently serves multiple communities in Cumberland and York Counties, including Portland, Peaks Island, Cumberland, Brunswick, Freeport and Wells. We could use help with food coordination in any of these communities!  We need Local Coordinators in York and Biddeford/Saco.

When will I work?
On your own schedule, in coordination with other local volunteers.  Community Builds typically take place between September and January each year.

What length of commitment is expected? 
Flexible options! Volunteer for a few hours on just one day for a Community Build, or help out for 9+ months to organize a Community Build as a Local Coordinator! It takes several weeks to secure food donations as a Food Coordinator for a Community Build. 

When and where will volunteer training/orientation take place? 
As needed for new volunteers - we can work with your schedule! We provide two, 2-hour zoom trainings, plus in-the-field training with another experienced volunteer.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging is teaming up with MaineHealth Maine Medical Center - Biddeford and Maine Medical Center (Portland) to recruit volunteers for the Hospital Elder Life Program.

As a volunteer in Maine Health's Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients of the age of 70.  You'll help them maintain their dignity, health, and well-being. Whether you're helping patients stay active, engaged, or simply offering a comforting presence, your contribution will help improve their hospital experience.

You will actively support older patients in various ways, including:

-Daily Visitor: Offer orientation, communication, and social support.
-Feeding Assistant: Help with meal setups and provide companionship during meals.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging is seeking volunteers to help Medicare beneficiaries understand and access their coverage through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) across York and Cumberland counties.

What You'll Do:
-Offer one-on-one confidential and unbiased counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their representatives regarding Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and Medicare Savings Programs.
-Assist beneficiaries by using Medicare.gov to compare prescription drug and Medicare Advantage plans.
-Help combat health care fraud, errors, and abuse
-Document interactions and report your volunteer hours and activities.
-Stay informed by participating in case reviews and other learning opportunities.
-Make appropriate referrals for other resources as needed

What skills do I need to be a Phone Pal volunteer?
Volunteers must be able to develop a sense of trust and rapport; sensitivity toward older adults and persons with disabilities and/or dementia; active listening skills; access to reliable phone service. Volunteers communicate concerns to the Phone Pal Coordinator as needed and follow protocol if recipient does not answer phone at the scheduled time.

Where & when will I make my calls?
Phone Pals call their match 1-3 times/week for about 10-30 minutes each time - the days and times of the calls are flexible!  Whatever works best for you and your Phone Pal match!  Make calls from your home, office - or anywhere!  To build relationships, we ask for a commitment of at least 6 months.

Striving to help each patient reach their goals at end of life, we work together to create an individualized plan of care with each of our patients. Seeking a volunteer to assist residents with hanging their pictures.  Hammer, picture hardware, level, and tape measure are all provided, so know-how and a friendly smile are all you need to bring with you for this unique service provided within their home.  

Scheduled days and timeframes negotiable based on volunteer availability during normal business hours. Anticipate a bi-weekly schedule will fit current need; open to adjusting as demand and volunteer preference changes.

We are looking for a volunteer who enjoys watching movies and talking with seniors. You will be responsible to play the movie, pass out refreshments, sit and enjoy the film with our residents, put the movie away, and clean up following the resident's departure from the theater room. Comfort with occasional troubleshooting and the ability to follow a printed directions list for proper use of our electronic system required. Currently scheduled Mondays and Fridays from 1:00-4:00p.m. Can volunteer for just one day a week or both. (Training provided and staff support for first couple programs.)    

*Once fully independent with technology and troubleshooting, capacity to adjust schedule to support evening movies to be scheduled at volunteer availability.

Become an Energy Coach! Coaches provide residents with individualized information and assistance to navigate home energy retrofits. An energy coach provides information on typical processes, financial incentives and available contractors, and stays with the resident with follow-up throughout the process.

The coaches are process facilitators, not technical experts, but will receive training to work in this capacity. We are looking for coaches who can provide excellent customer service and clear communication. Some familiarity with green energy technology is a plus. Our coaches are supported with a toolkit, access to experts to answer questions, and a peer learning approach for coaches to share knowledge. 2-5 hours per week.

Help us develop and produce monthly opportunities for residents to learn more about energy savings and take climate action on an individual, local and regional level. This committee meets 1-2 times per month on Zoom. We partner with area organizations to widen the impact of this outreach. 2-5 hours per month. MUST BE LOCATED IN YORK COUNTY, MAINE.

Overview: The Cumberland County Animal Response Team (CCART) is a dedicated group of volunteers committed to ensuring the welfare of animals during emergencies and disasters. Our team works under the direction of the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency and collaborates with local, state, and federal partners to provide timely and effective responses to animal-related incidents.

CCART Mission: To coordinate sheltering and minimize suffering of pets in the event of a major disaster, to provide community awareness of emergency planning and preparedness for families of companion and large animals, and to partner with other responders to ensure effective overall disaster response.

History: In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, federal officials learned that many Gulf Coast residents refused to evacuate without their pets. The residents who did evacuate with pets found human shelters unwilling or unable to accept companion animals. This tragic situation prompted Congress to pass the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (the PETS Act). This law requires state and local emergency management officials to incorporate household pets and service animals into disaster preparedness programs. In September, 2008, the Cumberland County Animal Response Team held its first informational meeting and has been committed to animal welfare and emergency animal sheltering ever since.

Key Responsibilities:
       - Emergency Response: Mobilizing to assist with animal sheltering and medical care during disasters.
       - Public Education: Conducting workshops and outreach programs to promote animal preparedness and responsible pet ownership.
       - Resource Coordination: Collaborating with local agencies to ensure resources are available for animals in need during crises.
       - Advocacy: Raising awareness about animal welfare and promoting policies that protect pets, service animals, and livestock in our community.

Overview: The Wilderness Rescue Team (WRT) is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation that has been serving the people of Maine for more than 40 years. As a search and rescue team, WRT provides a critical set of skills to assist in wilderness rescue and is available 24/7 to respond. The team trains in multiple search and rescue functions such as ground search, lost person behavior, basic life support skills, backcountry rescue, and high angle rescue, as well as providing preventative search and rescue programs for groups and members of the public. WRT is a member of the Maine Association for Search and Rescue (MASAR) and is affiliated with Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency to provide wilderness search and rescue services to the Cumberland County.

Mission: Our mission is to provide search, technical rescue, and medical services in wilderness areas.
Training: All members of WRT work towards and become certified as a Search Team Member through MASAR. Team members can also become certified as a Technical Specialist or in Wilderness First Aid. WRT members train year round with monthly meetings/skills training once a month. During the summer, members travel to Baxter State Park to train and serve as the on-duty SAR team for the park. Winter training sessions are also conducted at Mount Katahdin, focusing on winter weather skills.

• Emergency Response: Rapidly deploying to locate and assist individuals in distress in wilderness areas.
• Training and Exercise: Regularly conducting training sessions and exercises to ensure team readiness and proficiency.

Mission: The mission of the Wireless Society of Southern Maine Emergency Communications Team is to serve the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, and the community in general, by providing emergency communications assistance, conducting programs and training, promoting radio knowledge and individual operating efficiency, and to conduct activities to advance general interest and welfare of Amateur Radio as a viable and efficient means of communications support.

The Cedars is currently looking for a volunteer to join our team that can assist our staff with lunch and community outings.The role would involve accompanying staff and residents to restaurants, museums or other desired places of local travel. There is no driving requirement, just the ability to accompany residents on our van and walk with or guide them as needed on the trips, per staff requests. For more information please inquire.

PWH has a wide variety of at-home sewing projects for volunteers to assist with throughout the year. Examples of tasks: hemming sheets, cutting down towels, making reusable shopping bags or masks out of blue wrap, creating children’s dresses and shorts We also have a sewing circle that meets almost monthly at PWH to work on projects.

ITNPortland is seeking volunteers to drive older adults and those with a disability in the Greater Portland area. Rides with us aren’t just for medical appointments- our service provides our members with rides to essentials as well as recreation activities, religious activities, and shopping. Life isn’t just about medical appointments, and we help those who cannot drive themselves stay active and engaged in their community.

Volunteer drivers are needed for all times, but the need is greatest for weekdays between 8am and 5pm. All volunteers are provided training, and can be reimbursed for mileage.

We are in desperate need of someone with graphic design and file format skills to work on branding, as well as media for upcoming and annual programs. If you have a background in graphic design and some time to spare, we would really love to talk with you! 

BCHC is in need of a photographer to help get amazing pictures for use in social media and other promotions in the future. These pictures would include current pictures of the community at events held throughout the year, old buildings and structures, architectural wonders, scenic views, public institutions, etc. Photos should include primarily areas in Biddeford, but not restricted to one area, and also surrounding communities. 

If you have an eye for color, composition, and love to take pictures, you are who we want. College students, high school photography students, retired photographers or those who love to take pictures as a hobby are all welcome to contact us. 

If you have knowledge and experience in the use of Adobe and editing, that would be great! 

A Videographer would be a great asset to help with various events and programs throughout the year, specifically the BCHC Hall of Fame Ceremony, the La Kermesse Festival, the Cultural Cuisine and the Voices of Biddeford interviews as well as occasional programs and presentations throughout the year. 

If this is something you are seriously interested in, we could really use your skills!

Looking for someone energetic with a background in fundraising to assist our nonprofit oganization with fundraising events. Support will be provided via the board and volunteers. Prior experience and interest in fundraising is a big plus. If this is something you are interested in, please be sure to contact us via the website or email.  Fundraising is an integral part of our nonprofit organization and needed to support ongoing programs such as the Greater Biddeford-Saco Music Hall of Fame, BCHC Cultural Cuisine and more. Help is needed with solicitations, letter writing, campaigns, fundraising database management, annual raffle, and much more!

BCHC participates in several events throughout the year which showcase the Cultural Cuisines available in the community. These include participating in RiverJam, La Kermesse, Cookies Around the World during the Holiday Season and possibly WinterFest (in 2024) featuring Desserts from Around the World. 

If you have a passion for cooking, or would like to commit to helping, and/or cooking a cultural dish for these events in 2024, we really would love to have you join us. Help is needed to work and set up these events, as well as the cooking itself.

All costs for food supplies will be reimbursed for those participating in the cooking part of the events. If this is something that intrigues you, please be sure to let us know. We are always looking for a variety of cultural foods to offer for tasting. 

Looking for someone with knowledge of marketing/communications and various platforms to help with promotion of the organization and its programs. Knowledge of MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Zoom, and Hootsuite is a plus.

Whether you are a college student with an interest in social media, or are a retired executive, it doesn't matter to us. What matters is that you have an interest and passion for helping BCHC to develop a sound marketing/communication plan, and that you have the ability to train others, willing to help with social media and news postings, etc, and can promote the organization by helping to market it and to grow it in a healthy and positive way. 

As Chair of the committee, tasks also include oversight of those doing marketing, advertising, social media and the website, to assure that scheduled posts are set up on social media, a newsletter gets done on a regular basis, there is oversight and/or writing of press releases,  and a budget is maintained for communications.

The Cedars is looking for some assistance during the weekend in the afternoon with our activity cart. The position is very flexible in regards to time. This would involve visiting some of our patients in the Samuel L. Cohen Rehab Center and delivering activity supplies such as books, games, puzzles and art materials. Training will be provided and experience working with seniors is preferred but not required.

Pet visits with residents add so much to the quality of life here at The Cedars. With regular visits, there are great health benefits, such as decreased blood pressure, increase in mood and a sense of overall wellbeing.

If you have a certified therapy animal that you would like to share with our community, we would be interested in connecting with you! Duties include 1:1 visits in resident rooms and common areas. 

Please make sure that your pet has an updated health record, including all required immunizations. A pet health certificate and an interview must be completed before beginning.

Partners for World Health (PWH) is a non profit organization in Portland, ME dedicated to reclaiming serviceable medical equipment and unused medical supplies and shipping to hospitals and health clinics in need around the world. PWH also helps to improve the local environment by redistributing items within New England. In addition, PWH coordinates global health volunteer opportunities to various parts of Africa and Asia.

PWH is seeking a volunteer driver for our 20 foot box truck to pick up medical supplies and equipment. As a driver, you'll be the friendly face representing our organization, picking up donated goods within our community, with opportunities to travel across New England. Senior Companions Needed in Cumberland and York Counties!

Senior Companions are volunteers, age 55 and older, who volunteer with housebound elders and isolated adults who need help to maintain their independence. Senior Companions may provide transportation to doctor’s appointments or other errands and provide companionship through visits and phone calls.

Qualified applicants, who volunteer at least 10 hours per week, receive a tax-free stipend, travel and meal reimbursements, and other benefits including monthly training. All benefits are tax-free and do not affect social security, SSI/SSDI, subsidized housing, food stamps, LIHEAP, or other programs.

Above and beyond losses due to the death of loved ones, they also have experienced collective loss—a community-wide devastation that destroys a sense of place, belonging, safety, and group identity. The Intercultural Peer Support Program promotes healing and resilience in the face of complex traumatic stress and loss by increasing social, emotional, and coping skills; fostering a sense of belonging; and renewing hope. When children and teens experience the benefits of peer support, we see a relief of distress, improved sense of well-being, ability to enjoy rewarding friendships, and ability to complete tasks. These benefits contribute to school success.
