Volunteer: Community Outings Assistant

The Cedars is currently looking for a volunteer to join our team that can assist our staff with lunch and community outings.The role would involve accompanying staff and residents to restaurants, museums or other desired places of local travel. There is no driving requirement, just the ability to accompany residents on our van and walk with or guide them as needed on the trips, per staff requests. For more information please inquire.

The position is very flexible in regards to time. This would involve visiting some of our patients in the Samuel L. Cohen Rehab Center and delivering activity supplies such as books, games, puzzles and art materials. Training will be provided and experience working with seniors is preferred but not required.

Volunteer: Certified Pet Therapy Visitors

Pet visits with residents add so much to the quality of life here at The Cedars. With regular visits, there are great health benefits, such as decreased blood pressure, increase in mood and a sense of overall wellbeing.

If you have a certified therapy animal that you would like to share with our community, we would be interested in connecting with you! Duties include 1:1 visits in resident rooms and common areas. 

Please make sure that your pet has an updated health record, including all required immunizations. A pet health certificate and an interview must be completed before beginning.

This may be done through reading, playing games, sharing stories, writing a letter or just conversing. The resident usually indicates how they would like this time to be spent. Our friendly visitors often assist residents by escorting or transporting to and from activities provided within our community. Traits of a friendly visitor here at The Cedars include: The ability to relate effectively, positively and compassionately with residents, members and staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Interest in getting to know residents personally. Ability to work with minimal supervision once tasks and responsibilities have been clearly defined. Ability to learn to transport residents in wheel chairs
