Opportunities From: VolunteerME Southern Maine

Join us for one of South Portland's favorite summer traditions! The Concert in the Park series has brought the Redbank neighborhood together for over 10 years, creating a fun, family-friendly evening where neighbors connect and local youth enjoy music, food, and community.

The SoPo Resource HUB/TOA, in partnership with the South Portland West End Neighborhood Association and Wayside Food Programs, provides a free community meal at each concert through the generosity of local donations. Each event serves up to 200 community members, featuring a main course, 2–3 side dishes, and a generous donation of rush energy drinks from Aroma Joe's. We are looking for approximately six volunteers for each event. We especially encourage neighborhood residents to join us as a great way to meet neighbors and strengthen community connections.

Help sort donated school supplies at TOA.

Our community partners donate school supplies for our clients and their families that will be returning to school at the end of August. This project is design to put supplies together for different age groups in backpacks that are ready to go. 

Senior Companions Needed in Cumberland and York Counties!

Senior Companions are volunteers, age 55 and older, who volunteer with housebound elders and isolated adults who need help to maintain their independence. Senior Companions may provide transportation to doctor’s appointments or other errands and provide companionship through visits and phone calls.

Qualified applicants, who volunteer at least 10 hours per week, receive a tax-free stipend, travel and meal reimbursements, and other benefits including monthly training. All benefits are tax-free and do not affect social security, SSI/SSDI, subsidized housing, food stamps, LIHEAP, or other programs.

In Southern Maine, The Opportunity Alliance sponsors the Foster Grandparent Program. Foster Grandparents are men and women age 55 and over who enjoy volunteering their time with children in schools and child development centers.
