Sanford Springvale Mousam Way Land Trust

Who We Are

Mousam Way Land Trust is known for its education programs involving local school students in actual field research and habitat restoration. At present we are developing a series of self-guiding learning adventure trails that can be used by the public and school field trips.Over the past three years we have partnered with the City of Sanford and NEXTERA Energy in the development of a large-scale solar project at Sanford Airport. One recent project is the introduction of southern tree species to act as replacement for our cool adapted evergreens and hardwoods displaced by warming temperature

What We Do

Our land trust came into being in order to protect a unique bog encircled pond that today has become one of our signature holdings. Slowly over twenty-two years we have added other tracts that are scattered around Sanford and the adjacent towns. We are a small conservancy that manages about 800 acres in the Sanford area with a mission of protecting significant habitats for humans and natural species; educating citizens about the worth of protecting these resources and conducting research to determine the best ways to manage them. We also operate a community garden at our developing community ecology center.
