Caleb works with over 3,500 low income and very low income residents around New England making on average 60% of median income. Nearly 1500 of the residents reside in housing specifically for elderly and handicapped individuals. Service coordinators assist residents meet their daily needs so that they may remain independent in a safe, healthy environment. The remaining 2,000 residents are families with almost half of them under 18 years old. While only a handful of residents still receive welfare benefits and more families are working, many families are still living on salaries from temporary and part-time jobs, housing and food subsidies. Those families receiving welfare benefits soon face more severe limitations. Service coordinators work with these families on the long road to economic self-reliance. Community centers at each of the housing sites offer a variety of programs to address expressed needs of the community. After school programs engage youth who might otherwise have no where else to go. Support groups, ESL classes, financial management classes and parenting classes help residents address individual needs while building community.

Caleb's Determination Caleb was a biblical character of heroic proportions. He was unafraid of challenges, obstacles and overwhelming odds. Caleb's determination and sense of purpose enabled him to see opportunity where others saw only difficulty. Caleb was one of the twelve explorers sent by Moses into the land of Canaan. While ten of the explorers returned woeful and full of dread, Caleb and Joshua returned from their exploration convinced that the giants they observed could be overcome. With faith they saw great opportunities and promise. It is with this sense of faith, determination and confidence that Caleb's Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers address the affordable housing crisis and the social and economic needs of Caleb residents.
