Who We Are

Founded by Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project in 2005 and was initially fiscally sponsored by Maine People’s Resource Center (MPRC), the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, also known as MIRC, grew in size and power from 20 members to 85 members located throughout the state. What began as a small, informal yet vibrant coalition in 2005 transitioned into today’s full-fledged, independent 501c3 , immigrant-led non-profit organization. The Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition (MIRC) is the convener of a unique, statewide network of 85 organizations, a majority of which are led by people of color – representing diverse ethnic communities across our state. All coalition member organizations are working to create and support programs and policies that promote immigrant inclusion and integration. MIRC represents member organizations that include immigrant constituency groups, advocacy groups, direct service organizations and grassroots community organizations.

What We Do

Maine Immigrants' Rights' Coalition provides information, advocacy, capacity building, and service coordination to meet the needs of immigrant communities living in Maine. MIRC has a variety of needs for volunteer support, foremost among them being individuals who can help individually package and transport 300+ culturally appropriate meals from a commercial scale kitchen at 63 Storer St. in Saco to the Saco Comfort Inn at 48 Industrial Park Rd., where 100 asylum-seeking families are being temporarily housed as an emergency shelter solution.
