Who We Are

Created in 2012, Furniture Friends is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides donated furniture to people in need throughout Greater Portland. With ongoing support from the community, we are able to fulfill our mission of “Creating Homes. Rebuilding Lives.”

What We Do

Furniture Friends partners with over 120 local social service providers, hospitals, faith-based organizations, municipalities, and schools to identify people in need who lack the financial resources to purchase furniture on their own. Among the clients we serve are people who have struggled with homelessness and/or substance abuse as well as those living with physical and mental disabilities. We also serve veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and many immigrants beginning their new lives. Following an in-home assessment, we welcome clients with access to transportation into our warehouse to select their furniture from our inventory. Alternatively, volunteer teams deliver furniture to clients without access to transportation. Furniture Friends relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to donate gently used furniture that serves as the essential building blocks of people’s homes. Donors can schedule a furniture drop-off at our warehouse, or schedule a furniture pick-up.
