Who We Are

Good Helper Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping immigrants thrive. We do this through various programs and services that target homelessness and food insecurity, among other issues facing new Mainers. Our story began in 2018, rooted in empathy and a shared experience. Several established immigrants in the community noticed the challenges facing newcomers, some even from the same countries we had called home. Witnessing the struggles firsthand – finding housing, navigating unfamiliar systems – we couldn’t stand by and do nothing. What began with helping a few individuals blossomed into a calling. Recognizing the widespread need, we formalized our efforts in 2022, establishing a non-profit to reach and empower more newcomers on their journey to thriving in Maine.

What We Do

Our programs address a range of essential needs for our communities: Basic Needs Assistance: We ensure access to vital resources like food, clothing, and hygiene products, mitigating immediate hardships and promoting health and well-being. Transportation Support: We help new Americans overcome transportation barriers by providing access to free transportation to immigration appointments and apartment showings. Affordable Housing: We assist in locating secure and affordable housing options by coordinating and partnering with various landlords to get people into their own homes. This is a critical foundation for stability and long-term success. Temporary Rent Subsidies: Recognizing the financial challenges of securing housing, especially with the cost of rent on the rise, we offer temporary rent subsidies to bridge the gap and ease the transition into self-sufficiency.
