Who We Are

We are a nonprofit organization based in Portland, Maine, dedicated to helping families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness achieve lasting independence. Greater Portland Family Promise (GPFP) brings together local congregations, volunteers, and community partners to provide a holistic support services to families in need. Our programs include Transitional Housing, Housing Navigation Case Management, and Housing Stabilization Case Management, which help families secure and maintain stable housing. We also assist with Benefits Access to ensure families receive the support they are eligible for. Education and enrichment are key parts of our mission. We provide English language classes in partnership with the Gorham Congregational Church, financial literacy education, and opportunities for art, outings, and cultural celebrations that foster community connection and growth. To further support families’ stability and independence, we offer financial assistance for rent and security deposits, access to culturally appropriate food and diaper distributions, and move-in support, including furniture and household essentials. Our strong network of volunteers enhances these efforts by providing meals, transportation, companionship, and other forms of care. Our vision is a community where every family has a home, a stable livelihood, and the opportunity to build a brighter future.
