Who We Are

The Portland Public Schools are responsible for ensuring a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. Â We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner. Â The East End Community School opened in August 2006. It is on the site of the old Jack Elementary school and services the students who previously attended both Jack and Adams Elementary School. Enrollment is about 450 students in PreK-5.

What We Do

We are an elementary school with a diverse student body representative of the City in which we live. Approximately 76% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Our school system is one in which the complex wholeness of each learner is honored, community based learning standards and assessment define the expectations of all students, school and classroom practice is based on the best current research about teaching for learning and partners make the community our classroom.
