Ocean Avenue Elementary School

Vision: All learners will be fully prepared to participate and succeed in a diverse and ever-changing world. Mission: The Portland Public Schools are responsible for ensuring a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner. Ocean Avenue School opened in 2012 and is the newest Elementary School in Portland, Maine. Ocean Avenue School replaced the former Baxter School, and Clifford Elementary School as well.

Ocean Avenue School serves 450 students in grades K-5. We are one of nine elementary schools that make up Portland Public Schools. Ocean Ave School is a supportive and collaborative community where students and learning are at the center of our focus. We are able to use our staff strategically to meet the needs of all of our students. Ocean Avenue School uses Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) to create procedures and routines for all students. Our PBIS school-wide rules are: We are Responsible, We are Respectful, and We are Safe. Our school has state of the art technology in each classroom with document cameras, smart boards, and LCD projectors. We have a very active PTO. Our parents are engaged and very supportive of all of our students. Ocean Avenue School has regular newsletters, our website, and teacher updates to keep a strong home school connection. Each grade level holds a curriculum night for parents, in addition to our open house evening. Parents provide a variety of after school enrichment activities for our students. Ocean Avenue School believes in setting high standards for all students and providing multiple supports for students to reach these standards. We have a strong literacy team focused on supporting all students to read on grade level. We have several teams who monitor each student, their academic achievement, and support plans.
