Tai Chi for Health & Balance Seeks Volunteer Teachers
Tai chi is known as one of the most effective exercises for physical and mental well-being. Practiced throughout the world for centuries for its many health benefits, tai chi strengthens and mobilizes joints and muscles, improving physical fitness and mental relaxation. Join this storied history, and a dedicated team, and make a difference by volunteering as A Tai Chi for Health & Balance Teacher at the Southern Maine Agency on Aging!
SMAA has been offering Tai Chi for Health & Balance in the community for many years. This evidence-based workshop was developed by Dr. Paul Lam for the Arthritis Foundation. It uses gentle sun-style tai chi routines that are safe, easy to learn, and suitable for every fitness level. The ancient discipline of tai chi combines agile steps, joint-safe exercise, and mental strength to improve mobility, breathing, and relaxation in ways that help you feel greater control over your daily life. It is a joint-safe way for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy life and meet new friends while taking control of your physical, emotional, and mental health. Classes meet for one hour twice a week, for 10 weeks.
SMAA offers Tai Chi for Health & Balance regularly, at various locations in southern Maine, as well as virtual classes...and we are looking for volunteers to train to become teachers on our team!
If you are enthusiastic about making a difference with older adults, enjoy teaching others & physical movement, and are willing to learn the platform skills (Zoom) needed for virtual coaching, consider training to become a Tai Chi for Health & Balance volunteer teacher!
