Consider volunteering as a Welcome Ambassador, utilizing your interpersonal skills at the Sanford/Springvale office of Southern Maine Agency on Aging. Welcome Ambassadors are the face of SMAA – greeting every person who walks through our doors with warmth, respect, and kindness. This frontline volunteer position plays a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and person-centered environment for older adults, caregivers, volunteers, and community members.
As a Welcome Ambassador, you'll provide relief and support to dedicate & hard-working agency staff, and create a welcoming experience for our clients and guests!

Volunteer Schedule:
We are currently looking for volunteers that will assist Monday through Friday between 8:00am - 4:00pm. Ideal shifts would be 4 hours long, but we welcome flexibility depending on time that a volunteer is able to offer!
What does a Welcome Ambassador do?
- Occupy the Springvale Center welcome area to greet and welcome all visitors with warmth and respect.
- Provide directions and general information about our services and programs
- Assist clients and caregivers in navigating the space
- Communicate any concerns or urgent needs to staff as needed
- Guide guests through the Visitor Information Form to make referral to Resource Specialist, as appropriate
- Act as an intermediary to connect with proper SMAA staff when guests arrive for appointments; for example, connect walk-ins to a Resource Specialist or other appropriate team member, as needed
- Help maintain a calm, friendly, and organized welcome area
- Perform occasional administrative tasks based on volunteer interest and comfort level
What qualities, experience & skills does a Welcome Ambassador need?
- Interest in helping connect older adults with resources and services.
- Friendly, courteous, and patient; willing and able to offer a listening ear and engage in light conversation as appropriate
- Comfortable engaging with older adults, including those with dementia and other cognitive challenges
- Ability to communicate information clearly
- Flexibility and willingness to find quiet activities during down time
- Dependable and punctual
