The Christine B Foundation is a service-providing nonprofit striving to support those facing cancer by extending access to healthy food, nutritional information, and community connections essential to their strength and comfort. 

The Cancer Nutrition Services through CBF include hospital produce pick up, oncology dietitian counseling, and home-delivered medically tailored groceries for patients with cancer, recent survivors, and their families. 

This program supports over 1,500 Mainers every year across the state now having provided over 700,000 equivalent meals.

Thanks to 100+ volunteers working in various parts of this effort, CBF remains committed to keep this service at no cost to recipients. 


Home Delivery Driver – Volunteer Opportunity (Starting January)

The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is recruiting Home Delivery Driver Volunteers to support our medically tailored grocery program for patients with cancer. We are piloting an expansion of services in Cumberland and York counties and aim to recruit and onboard 6+ volunteers as new referrals come in.

Role Overview

Home Delivery Drivers meet CBF staff at a designated pickup site in Portland, retrieve pre-assembled grocery packages tailored to each patient’s medical needs and preferences, and deliver them directly to patients’ homes in Southern Maine. This is a patient-facing role that typically requires 1–2 hours every other week. Delivery windows are generally Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, depending on volunteer and patient availability.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Pick up assigned, pre-assembled grocery packages from the Portland site.

  • Deliver nutrition packages to patient homes in Cumberland or York County.

  • Provide a compassionate, professional experience at drop-off.

  • Uphold HIPAA and CBF privacy policies.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Successful background check.

  • Up-to-date flu vaccination.

  • Ability to commit to 1–2 hours every other week.

Additional Information

  • Volunteers are eligible for gas reimbursement at $0.25 per mile.

  • CBF provides training and onboarding for all new volunteers.
