Description

Looking for a fun volunteering adventure? Come experience the excitement of running a real two-foot gauge train. Join the volunteer crew on the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad (MNGRR).  MNGRR volunteers operate the trains and share Maine’s unique railroad history with visitors from around the world.  We will train you to become a trainman, conductor and even an engineer.

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum is a non-profit museum in Portland with a mission to educate the public and preserve historic equipment related to Maine's two-foot gauge railways.

Open daily from April through October, and seasonally for special events, the museum draws over 60,000 visitors a year, with volunteers donating over 10,000 hours annually.  For over 25 years, we have been running trains along beautiful Casco Bay in Portland.  Come join our team!  We all the necessary training.  Volunteers should be physically able and commit to a full day of service (9 am-4 pm.)  Contact Volunteer Resource Specialist, Elizabeth Hansen at ehansen@mainenarrowgauge.org.
