A key tool in our dementia care is the creation of a life chart for the patient who can no longer speak. You can be instrumental in contacting family and gathering the life story of the patient suffering from Alzheimers and various dementias. Then you can also create the collage, putting into graphic form the details of this person's life. These posters help to preserve the identity of the person who can no longer tell you about themselves, thereby helping caregivers to know the person behind the disease and to find a bond with them. Artistic skills are not essential so much as identifying what is most significant to the person and graphically portraying it. Some patients are still able to connect with these images, families love them, and caregivers use them to find a way into their memories. Training is 4 hours for doing the charts and 21 hours for contacting the families. We will show you all you need to know. Free volunteer training will take place at a mutually convenient time.
