We set out to accomplish our mission by: providing the full range of treatment services needed to rehabilitate birds, mammals and reptiles; assisting the public with issues relating to wildlife; and providing educational programs to promote knowledge and appreciation of wild animals and the habitats they depend on for survival.
What We Do
The Center for Wildlife's mission is to rehabilitate sick and injured wild animals, with the goal of returning them to the wild, and to promote respect for wildlife and the environment. Each year, over 1500 wild birds, mammals and reptiles needing care are brought to the Center for treatment by concerned members of the Public. Nearly 50% of the admitted animals are able to be released back to the wild. The Center for Wildlife, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in York, Maine by a local veterinarian in 1986. After a decade moving to several temporary locations in York, Cape Neddick and Eliot, CFW negotiated a long-term lease with the York Water District. In 1996, CFW relocated to a site near the top of Mount Agamenticus in Cape Neddick, where it has established one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation facilities of its kind in northern New England.
